- Club’s previous shirt sponsorship deal worth reported UK£6.5m per year
- One-year contract comes amid calls for ban on betting sponsors
Top-flight English soccer club Crystal Palace have announced that W88 will replace ManBetX as their new shirt sponsor.
The Asian online betting brand’s logo will feature on the front of Palace’s home, away and third shirts for the duration of the 2020/21 Premier League season, which is slated to start on 12th September.

Financial terms of the one-year agreement have not been made public. Palace’s three-year deal with ManBextX, which ran from the 2017/18 season until the end of the 2019/20 campaign, was worth a reported UK£6.5 million (US$8.4 million) a year.

Aston Villa reveal Cazoo as new shirt sponsor
Palace chairman Steve Parish said: “As the club begins a record eighth successive season in the Premier League, the most-watched league in the world, our international fanbase continues to grow.
“We share a common ambition to further extend our international footprint and we look forward to working in partnership with W88.”

The deal also ensures that W88 retains visibility in the Premier League after its deal with Aston Villa, another top-flight side, ended at the conclusion of the 2019/20 season. The company has also previously been the shirt sponsor of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Hilly Ehrlich, W88’s business development manager, added: “Apart from working closely with the club’s management and players, we are also excited and looking forward to engaging with Palace fans, both in England and around the world, for a successful partnership.”
Palace’s decision to sign just a one-year partnership with W88 comes amid growing calls for increased regulation on the gambling industry’s use of marketing in English soccer. Last month a House of Lords Select Committee report recommended that shirt sponsorship deals with gambling firms be outlawed in the Premier League and clubs in the English Football League (EFL) be given three years to phase out such deals.
Premier League chief executive Richard Masters previously said gambling needs stronger governance, but says it is up to individual clubs whether they want relationships with betting firms.
